Israeli troops approach Litani River to push off Hezbollah units
According to earlier reports, Israeli troops located dozens of underground facilities and missile systems used by Hezbollah to attack northern Israel
BEIRUT, November 26. /TASS/. Israeli commando brigades are pushing Hezbollah units off the Israeli-Lebanese border on the southern bank of the Litani River as part of Israel’s ground operation in southern Lebanon, Israel Defense Forces (IDF) Spokesman Avihai Edri said.
"The troops of the 91st Division entered the Wasi al-Saliki gorge near the Litani River and dismantled military infrastructure in this mountainous area," he wrote on his X account.
According to earlier reports, Israeli troops located dozens of underground facilities and missile systems used by Hezbollah to attack northern Israel. "The soldiers raided several terrorist targets, engaged in close-quarters combat with terrorists, located and destroyed dozens of launchers, thousands of rockets and missiles, and weapons storage facilities hidden in the mountainside," the IDF said earlier.
Israel has been delivering massive airstrikes on Hezbollah military targets in Lebanon since September 23, when it launched Operation Northern Arrows. Israel’s declared goal is to create safe conditions in the country’s northern areas so that tens of thousands of local residents could return to their homes. In the early hours of October 1, Israel announced the launch of a ground operation in Lebanon’s border areas.
Lebanon and Israel are holding US-brokered talks on a draft ceasefire agreement providing for a 60-day transition period, during which Israel is to withdraw its troops from southern Lebanon while Lebanese forces are to be deployed to border areas and Hezbollah is to move its heavy weapons and units north of the Litani River, to a distance of 30 kilometers from the border.
