ISLAMABAD, November 26. /TASS/. At least 12 people, including ten law enforcement officers, have been killed in clashes during a protest rally organized by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI, or the Movement for Justice) opposition party in Islamabad, Geo TV reports.

According to the broadcaster, Pakistani law enforcement agencies are trying to stop protesters from reaching downtown Islamabad, and quell the unrest. A total of 12 fatalities have been reported, including several members of the Rangers corps, two police officers and one border guard. Over 100 police officers have been injured.

Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has condemned attacks on law enforcement officers, emphasizing the need to bring those responsible to justice.

The PTI launched nationwide protests on November 24, seeking to make the federal government repeal the constitutional amendments adopted in October, review the results of the February parliamentary election and release political prisoners, including Imran Khan, the party’s founder and former prime minister.
