Turkey to continue regular dialogue with Russia and Ukraine in 2025 — foreign minister
"We are working hard to ensure peace, conducting regular political dialogue with the parties, and playing a fair mediating role," Hakan Fidan noted
ANKARA, November 21. /TASS/. The Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs remains committed to continuing regular dialogue with Russia and Ukraine regarding the resolution of the Ukrainian conflict and will work in this direction throughout next year, said Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan during a meeting of the parliamentary planning and budget committee.
"We support all peaceful initiatives to end the war between Russia and Ukraine and have called for a permanent solution with the participation of both parties. We are working hard to ensure peace, conducting regular political dialogue with the parties, and playing a fair mediating role," he said.
Fidan emphasized that the conflict in Ukraine "directly affects Turkey." "We have continued to make efforts to mitigate the regional and global consequences of the war and to eliminate risks to our country in 2024. Thanks to the Black Sea Grain Initiative, which prevented a global food crisis, we helped deliver about 33 million tons of grain to the world. We focused on ensuring the safety of commercial shipping in the Black Sea to prevent instability in the markets and the deterioration of security in the region," the minister added.
Speaking about the Syrian settlement and the prospects for normalization between Ankara and Damascus, Fidan noted that "efforts made by Turkey, together with Russia and Iran, within the Astana platform are of great importance." "On the other hand, we continue consultations with the US on Syria. Our main expectation is that the dialogue strategically proposed by our president will be assessed by the [Damascus] regime as beneficial for the Syrian people," Fidan pointed out.
The foreign minister concluded that "in 2025, Turkey will continue to support efforts to establish stability and peace in the Middle East, between Russia and Ukraine, and in Africa."
