NEW YORK, November 21. /TASS/. The anti-personnel landmines that the US will supply to the Kiev regime will contribute to the suffering of civilians and Washington must reconsider its decision, the Human Rights Watch (HRW) international non-governmental organization headquartered in New York City said.

"The Biden administration’s decision to transfer internationally banned antipersonnel landmines to Ukraine risks civilian lives," the organization said in a statement on its website.

"President Biden’s decision to transfer antipersonnel landmines risks civilian lives and sets back international efforts to eradicate these indiscriminate weapons," said Mary Wareham, deputy crisis, conflict and arms director at Human Rights Watch. "The US should reverse this reprehensible decision, which only increases the risk of civilian suffering in the short and long term," she added.

Earlier, the Pentagon confirmed that the US administration had approved the use of anti-personnel landmines in Ukraine. The agency specified that it will supply the Kiev regime with "non-persistent anti-personnel landmines" that are safer because they lose the ability to detonate over time.

Previously, the Washington Post reported that the US President Joe Biden had authorized supplying Ukraine with anti-personnel landmines abandoning the 2022 policy restricting their use to the Korean Peninsula.
