WASHINGTON, November 20. /TASS/. US President-elect Donald Trump is set to counter China "globally," a transition team representative of the next US leader told TASS.

Regarding Washington's relations with Beijing, he emphasized that China is an "area of concern" and stated that actions will be taken to diminish China's influence across the world.

When discussing Trump's use of US import taxes, the representative noted that this is "one of the favorite [foreign policy] tools" of the incoming US leader. The question, the official stated, is whether these taxes are an ultimate objective or a means to address specific goals. In his view, Trump demonstrated the successful application of these tariffs during his first term as president. He referenced Mexico as an example, noting that the country agreed to US demands on border and immigration control following Trump's tougher trade policies.

Republican Trump defeated his Democratic rival, current US Vice President Kamala Harris, in the November 5 election. Apart from that, the Republican Party took control of the Senate and is expected to gain a majority in the House of Representatives. Trump’s inauguration is set for January 20, 2025.
