Ukraine’s allies doubt impact of US approval of strikes against Russia on conflict balance
According to the media, the Ukrainian army has been losing ground in recent months "amid heavy pressure from more numerous and better-equipped Russian troops"
NEW YORK, November 19. /TASS/. Ukraine's allies do not expect US President Joe Biden's recent approval of long-range missile strikes by the Ukrainian army deep inside Russia to significantly impact or dramatically alter the balance of the Russia-Ukraine conflict, Bloomberg reported on Tuesday.
Earlier, Ukraine had hoped that the approval to strike Russia with shorter-range missiles could alter the situation. However, the Ukrainian army has been losing ground in recent months "amid heavy pressure from more numerous and better-equipped Russian troops," the media outlet noted.
The New York Times reported on November 17 that US President Joe Biden had authorized the use of US-supplied ATACMS tactical ballistic missiles for strikes inside Russia. US Assistant Secretary of State for Western Hemisphere Affairs Brian Nichols later confirmed this information. Top EU diplomat Josep Borrell stated that some EU countries had also permitted the use of their weapons for strikes up to 300 kilometers deep into Russia
Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated earlier that Moscow's position on strikes by US missiles deep inside Russian territory was clearly outlined by Russian President Vladimir Putin in September. Peskov emphasized that this decision marks a "qualitatively new round" of tensions.
