Colombia agrees with Russia to establish group on mercenaries situation — Foreign Minister

Luis Gilberto Murillo underscored that the Colombian authorities want their compatriots not to be involved in any conflicts in the world

RIO DE JANEIRO, November 19. /TASS/. Colombia reached an agreement with Russia on the establishment of a working group for the analysis of the situation regarding Colombian mercenaries, who took part in the conflict in Ukraine, Foreign Minister Luis Gilberto Murillo said.

"We discussed this topic with Minister [Sergey] Lavrov. Of course, this topic concerns us. We discussed the situation regarding the detained people, and we agreed with Minister Lavrov to establish a working group to look into these cases," he said, answering a question from TASS.

Murillo underscored that the Colombian authorities want their compatriots not to be involved in any conflicts in the world.

"We were told some figures regarding the number of Colombians taking part in this conflict. They said that some of them were eliminated, which is very painful for their families," the foreign minister said.

He pointed out that the government of Colombia has sent a bill to the parliament on the ratification of the international convention on combating the recruitment of mercenaries in order to stop the use of Colombian citizens in foreign conflicts.
