Sahra Wagenknecht pointed out that the US decision to strike deep into Russia is another step towards a major war

BERLIN, November 18. /TASS/. Sahra Wagenknecht, leader of the Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance - Reason and Justice party, has warned of the danger of Berlin's transfer of Taurus cruise missiles to Kiev.

"The delivery of Taurus missiles to be programmed by the Bundeswehr (the German armed forces - TASS) would practically be a declaration of war on a nuclear power, Russia. The discussion shows that a Merz-Habeck government would be a coalition of war for Germany," the DPA news agency quoted her as saying. Wagenknecht called it extremely dangerous that the conservative bloc of the Christian Democratic Union of Germany and the Christian Social Union (CDU/CSU), the Greens and the Free Democratic Party have begun to bring the Taurus transfer issue back to the forefront.

At the same time, the politician pointed out that the US decision to strike deep into Russia is another step towards a major war. "It is very unusual to make such an explosive decision when a new [US] president has already been elected," Wagenknecht emphasized.

Earlier, CDU/CSU chancellor candidate Friedrich Merz and Green Party candidate Robert Habeck had come out in favor of handing over the Taurus missiles, which Kiev has long demanded. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has repeatedly rejected such a possibility, fearing an escalation of the Ukrainian conflict.

On November 17, The New York Times quoted sources as saying that US President Joe Biden had authorized Ukrainian strikes deep into Russia with ATACMS tactical ballistic missiles.

Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov recalled that Moscow's position on the Ukrainian strikes by US missiles deep into Russian territory was clearly and unambiguously formulated by Russian President Vladimir Putin in September. According to him, this decision means a "qualitatively new round of escalation of tensions."
