The Turkish proposal envisages establishing a demilitarized zone in eastern Donbass and placing international troops there

NEW YORK, November 18. /TASS/. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan will come up with a proposal to freeze the Ukraine conflict along the current front lines at the Group of 20 summit in Rio de Janeiro, Bloomberg reported on Sunday, citing sources.

According to them, the Turkish leader will present his proposal at the G20 leaders’ meeting later on Monday. Erdogan will suggest that Vladimir Zelensky agree to postpone discussions about his country’s bid to join NATO for at least 10 years, they added. Also, the Turkish proposal envisages establishing a demilitarized zone in eastern Donbass and placing international troops there.

Turkish officials view approach as the most realistic even as they acknowledge that it will be difficult for Ukraine to agree to that, Bloomberg concluded.

The G20 summit is taking place in Brazil on November 18-19. Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov represents Russia at the event.
