Bzhania says he remains Abkhazia’s elected president
"There is the law, and from the viewpoint of the law I am an elected president," he said
SUKHUM, November 17. /TASS/. Aslan Bzhania has told TASS that he remains the elected president of the Republic of Abkhazia despite the opposition’s statements.
"There is the law, and from the viewpoint of the law I am an elected president," he said.
Bzhania called the events in Sukhum on November 15, when rioters got to the territory and later the buildings of the parliament, the presidential administration and the government, an attempted coup.
"On November 15, a coup attempt was made. Rioters took the complex of governmental buildings, seriously damaging the buildings. As a result of their actions some people sustained severe bodily injuries. I estimate their actions as illegal," he told TASS.
The authorities of the Republic of Abkhazia and the opposition have not worked out a compromise on any issue, Bzhania said.
"No compromise has been worked out with the opposition on any issue by now. My position is unchanged, I have made a statement, and I repeated it today. This is the position of the president, the government, the authorities of the Republic of Abkhazia, and it will not change," he said.
