Helsinki court hasn’t received Russia’s appeal against seizure of properties in Finland

Moscow can appeal the court's decision until December 5

HELSINKI, November 15. /TASS/. The Helsinki District Court has not received an appeal against its decision to seize Russian real estate at the request of Ukrainian companies within the allotted time, the STT agency reported citing sources in the court.

As follows from the documents of the bailiffs received by TASS, the first part of seizing Russian properties was carried out on October 24 at 04:00 p.m. (01:00 p.m. GMT). Three weeks were provided for the appeal, so, the deadline expired on November 14, at 04:00(01:00 p.m. GMT).

The deadline for appealing the second part of seizures that were carried out on November 14 has again been set at three weeks - until December 5, the report says.

The appellate instance is the Helsinki District Court. On Thursday, the court told STT that Russia can in practice appeal the decision later, there are no time limits until the end of the year.

On November 5, a TASS source in the Russian Prosecutor General's Office reported that the supervisory agency will file an appeal against the seizure of Russian property in Finland in connection with claims by Ukrainian energy companies.

On October 29, a Helsinki court told TASS that the court's August 13 decision stipulated seizing movable and/or immovable property of the Russian Federation in Finland in the amount of about $5 billion following a claim from six Ukrainian energy companies, including Naftogaz. According to the Russian embassy, the arrest was imposed on more than 40 real estate properties.

The Russian embassy sent a note to the Finnish Foreign Ministry expressing a strong protest against the actions of the republic's authorities.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Russia would challenge in court the potential confiscation of its property in Finland at the request of Ukraine.
