VILNIUS, November 13. /TASS/. Lithuania has introduced mandatory electronic pre-registration for drivers of heavy-duty vehicles to cross the border with Russia’s Kaliningrad Region and Belarus, the press service of the Lithuanian government reported.
"We hope that this procedure will reduce the queues of trucks at checkpoints with Russia and Belarus and will improve the security situation in the border crossing areas," the statement quotes Lithuanian transport minister Marius Skuodis as saying.
The new procedure comes into force on December 1. Those drivers who have not registered to cross the border will have to wait for a gap in a live queue.
