Spanish meteorological agency issues red weather alert
Approximately 3,000 people have been evacuated from the Malaga province for safety reasons
MADRID, November 13. /TASS/. Spain’s state meteorological agency, Aemet, has issued both orange and red alerts due to extreme rainfall in several regions of the country.
According to the agency’s website, the red alert (the highest level of weather danger) has been declared in the south and east of the country due to heavy rain. Approximately 3,000 people have been evacuated from the Malaga province for safety reasons. Schools in Valencia and Andalusia have canceled classes.
Several highways have been closed, and rail services have been suspended in the affected areas. In addition, Malaga province is bearing the brunt of the weather, experiencing relentless rain and rising waters.
On October 29, the agency warned of adverse weather conditions in several regions of the country due to heavy rain. Red alerts were issued in the south and east of the country. The Valencia autonomous region was hit the hardest, experiencing floods. As a result, over 220 people have died, and the search for the missing continues.
According to the newspaper 20 Minutos, Spanish authorities plan to hold a national farewell ceremony for all the victims of the natural disaster. The date of the ceremony has not yet been announced.
