Iran’s top diplomat urges steps to ease tensions with US
According to Abbas Araghchi, some disagreements between Tehran and Washington "may be fundamental and unresolved," but work must be done to de-escalate tensions
DUBAI, November 13. /TASS/. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi emphasized the need to ease tensions with Washington, using established communication channels between the two countries.
"We need to manage the process to lower tensions between Iran and the US. Communication channels have always existed between us," Araghchi told reporters following a cabinet meeting, with the statement aired live by SNN.
According to him, some disagreements between Tehran and Washington "may be fundamental and unresolved," but work must be done to de-escalate tensions.
Earlier, Abbas Moghtadaei, deputy chairman of Iran’s parliamentary national security committee, stated that Iranian authorities are continuing indirect talks with the US, as this approach better serves the interests of the Islamic Republic.
On November 11, US Congresswoman Elise Stefanik, whom President-elect Donald Trump may appoint as US Ambassador to the UN, announced that Washington would continue its maximum pressure policy on Tehran after the Republican returns to the White House in January 2025.
