Czech intelligence warns of crime surge after Ukraine conflict ends
More than 380,000 people, mostly women and children, have fled Ukraine to the Czech Republic since February 24, 2022
PRAGUE, November 12. /TASS/. Czech special services predict that Ukrainian soldiers may join their families in the country, who arrived there earlier, once the Ukraine conflict ends, triggering a crime wave, Idnes reported.
US President-elect Donald Trump has made no secret of his intention to end the Ukraine conflict as soon as possible. If the hostilities end, this would immediately affect domestic security in the Czech Republic, intelligence officers warn, according to the news portal. Special services urge steps to prepare for a new, more risky wave of migrants as men traumatized by the conflict will flood in, bringing with them illicit weapons and causing a rise in crime.
According to Idnes, more than 380,000 people, mostly women and children, have fled Ukraine to the Czech Republic since February 24, 2022. Once the battles end, tens of thousands of Ukrainian soldiers will likely seek to reunite with their families.
"We should prepare a European-wide solution to prevent these people from entering," Idnes quoted Robert Kralichek, a Czech MP who sits on Parliament’s Security Committee, as saying.
As Czech experts predict a new influx of migrants after the Ukraine conflict ends, they suggest, among other things, implementing measures to set up healthcare, psychological, and other support centers for Ukrainian war veterans in the former Soviet republic to prevent the arrival of former servicemen who may pose a security threat.
