TUNIS, November 11. /TASS/. Member states of the Arab League and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation plan to work to freeze Israel's UN membership, according to a draft concluding statement of the current summit of the two groups, Al Arabiya television reported.
According to the excerpts from the statement that were reported by the television channel, the countries agreed to "rally up international support for freezing Israel's membership in the UN." The Arab League and the OIC are also calling on the international community to start implementing the plan for the establishment of a Palestinian state.
The draft also contains a demand to the UN Security Council to compel Israel to "stop its aggressive policy." In addition, Arab and Islamic countries plan to form "a tripartite mechanism to support the Palestinian cause."
The Saudi capital is hosting the second extraordinary Arab-Islamic Summit where delegates discuss the situation in the Middle East. The participants are hammering out a common position on the conflicts in Gaza and Lebanon.
The summit follow upon a high-level meeting that was held in Riyadh last November. At that time, members of the Arab League and the OIC called, among other things, for lifting the siege of the Gaza Strip, halting the export of arms and ammunition to Israel, and also announced their intention to ask the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons to investigate the alleged use of white phosphorus munitions by the Israeli military.
