Israel's new foreign minister notes progress in talks for ceasefire in Lebanon
The implementation of the provisions of any future agreement remains one of Israel's primary goals
TEL AVIV, November 11. /TASS/. Some progress has been made in the talks for a ceasefire in Lebanon, Israel's new Foreign Minister Gideon Saar said at a press conference.
"There has been some progress," Saar responded to a question about progress in negotiations. "We are working on it [the ceasefire in Lebanon] with the United States," the minister added.
The implementation of the provisions of any future agreement remains one of Israel's primary goals. Another key issue is the country’s ability to uphold the ceasefire by military means if it is violated by the Shiite Hezbollah movement, Saar noted. The foreign minister is convinced that the international community must play its role in securing Lebanon's future. In particular, he emphasized that Israel expects Russia to help prevent Hezbollah from smuggling weapons across the Syrian-Lebanese border.
Most of the Shiite organization's military facilities have been "seriously damaged or destroyed," but the military operation against them "is ongoing," the minister confirmed.
