Over a dozen delegations arrive in Kazakhstan to participate in Syria peace talks — MFA
Delegations from the guarantor countries of the Astana process are also present at the meeting
ASTANA, November 11. /TASS/. A total of 11 delegations have arrived in the capital of Kazakhstan to participate in the international meeting on the settlement of the situation in Syria, the press service of Kazakhstan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported.
"On November 11, 2024, the 22nd International Astana Format meeting on Syria began in Astana as part of the Astana process. Eleven delegations arrived in the capital of Kazakhstan to take part in the meeting. The Syrian delegation is headed by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Raad, with the Syrian armed opposition represented by Ahmed Toma," the ministry said.
Delegations from the guarantor countries of the Astana process are also present at the meeting. The Russian delegation is headed by the Russian President's Special Representative for the Syrian settlement, Alexander Lavrentyev; the Turkish delegation by Turkish Ambassador Mustafa Yurdakul; and the Iranian delegation by Senior Assistant to the Foreign Minister for Special Political Affairs, Ali Asghar Haji.
"Representatives from Jordan, Lebanon, and Iraq, as well as international organizations - the United Nations, the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, and the International Committee of the Red Cross - attended the talks as observers," the press service said.
