BERLIN, November 11. /TASS/. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has not ruled out holding a vote of confidence in his government in the Bundestag before December 25.

"It’s no problem at all for me to raise the issue of the vote before Christmas, if everyone agrees," he said in an interview with the ARD TV channel. Earlier, Scholz had announced that he would do so on January 15, 2025.

An acute political crisis has erupted in Germany due to disagreements within the ruling coalition over budgetary, financial, and economic policies. Key issues of concern include further aid to Kiev and the potential weakening of the debt brake rule, which restricts the government from spending more than it receives in revenue. On November 6, Chancellor Scholz decided to send Finance Minister Lindner into retirement, after which the ruling coalition collapsed.

If MPs refuse to vote for the chancellor, the president, by law, will be required to dissolve parliament within 21 days. New elections must then be held within 60 days of the Bundestag’s dissolution.
