Ongoing war in Gaza provokes violence like in Amsterdam — Hamas spokesman
Sami Abu Zuhri emphasized that the cessation of Israel’ strikes on Gaza "is a major part of respect to human rights" and "measures to ensure security and peace both in the region and globally"
CAIRO, November 8. /TASS/. Israel’s ongoing military operation in the Gaza Strip is what provokes such outbreaks of violence like the overnight attack on Israeli football fans in Amsterdam, Hamas spokesman Sami Abu Zuhri said.
The riots in Amsterdam demonstrate that Israel’s continuing war against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip "without any interference from the international community leads to such uncontrolled consequences," he was quoted as saying on the Hamas Telegram channel.
He emphasized that the cessation of Israel’ strikes on Gaza "is a major part of respect to human rights" and "measures to ensure security and peace both in the region and globally."
On the night of November 8, at least 10 Israelis were injured in an attack by Palestinian supporters in Amsterdam, according to Israel's Ynet news website. The incident occurred outside the stadium following the UEFA Europa League match between the local Ajax football club and Maccabi Tel Aviv (5-0). At least five fans were stabbed, and some were struck by a passing car.
Israeli Permanent Representative to the United Nations Danny Danon posted a video of the attack on his X page. It features attackers wearing clothes with Palestinian symbols. The Israeli foreign ministry has strongly recommended that Israeli nationals staying in Amsterdam don’t leave their hotels.
The Palestinian foreign ministry, in turn, called on the Dutch authorities to investigate the incident and "defend Palestinians and Arabs" in the country. The Palestinian side claims that Israeli football fans, with Israeli servicemen allegedly among them, were chanting "anti-Arab slogans" and demonstrated disrespect to Palestinian symbols, including the Palestinian flag. The ministry called for condemning the Israelis’ actions and take measures to avert such incident in the future. At the same time, the ministry stressed that the Palestinian side stands "against violence in any of its manifestations."
