Amsterdam authorities step up security measures after attack on Israeli people

THE HAGUE, November 8. /TASS/. Amsterdam authorities will implement additional security measures following overnight violence against Israeli football fans, a statement published on the city administration's website reads.
The local authorities instituted additional security measures after bursts of violence followed the Europa League football game between Israel’s Maccabi Tel Aviv and Dutch side Ajax late on November 7. The police increased their presence in the city, with special attention being paid to the protection of Jewish institutions. The city authorities condemned the outbursts of violence against Israelis and called on all those affected by the attacks to contact law enforcement agencies. Amsterdam's mayor, police chief, and prosecutor are now working closely with the Dutch government, the Israeli embassy to the country, and the city’s Jewish community to assess the scope of the incident.

Dutch police chief Peter Holla said in turn that preparations for the match took several weeks and that as many as 800 law enforcement officers were involved in providing security. According to Holla, an investigation into reports of hostage-taking is underway.
The media earlier reported at least 10 injuries in attacks by Palestinian supporters in Amsterdam. Israel's National Security Council urged all Israeli visitors to Amsterdam to take shelter in their hotels. The National Security Council advised Israeli citizens to return to Israel at the earliest opportunity.
