Europe could become main rival for US, Lukashenko says
The Belarusian president believes that the US will continue to put pressure on Europe, as it needs no competitors, but he did not rule out the possibility of the European Union (EU) restoring normal relations with Minsk and Moscow
MINSK, November 7. /TASS/. Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko believes that Europe may become the primary rival of the United States, the BelTA news agency reported.
"The world is changing drastically — tomorrow the situation will be completely different. It's not China that may become the main rival for the US, but Europe," Lukashenko told reporters.
The Belarusian president believes that the US will continue to put pressure on Europe, as it needs no competitors, but he did not rule out the possibility of the European Union (EU) restoring normal relations with Minsk and Moscow. "That is the basis of their existence. If Europe gains strength and the euro rises, the dollar will be doomed to decline. The EU has already started to realize this," Lukashenko said, adding that the leaders of the EU member states "will surely do everything in favor of their countries and Europe itself."
The EU countries may well team up and start cooperating with Belarus and Russia in the future, as their advanced technologies could be combined with the great resources of Russia, the Belarusian leader noted. "It will happen one day, you will see," he said.
Lukashenko noted that today "Germany's position has become highly volatile." "The moment they toss Scholz from office, Germany will come around. Cheap gas, inexpensive energy resources, the world's leading economy, the economic miracle — and because of it, where are they now? Nowhere near the top. Germans are not fools; they will make their government work properly," Lukashenko said.
The president also noted that the Global South is getting stronger, and the Indian economy is rapidly growing. "New circumstances may soon come into play. They [the US authorities] will have to react. That is why we look at everything from the perspective of today. Tomorrow, there will be another way to look at things. The situation is changing right before our eyes," the president stressed.
Lukashenko expects that US President-elect Donald Trump will deal with the world’s pressing issues and try to contribute to solving the backlog of global problems. "Still, there might be some hope for changes. And here is another interesting thing: when those with no experience are in power, it will somehow work, but when those with no children are in power, it is a disaster. Such people do not care about what is going on in the world," Lukashenko added. At the same time, he recalled Trump's big family with several children. "Trump is married to our Melania [Melania Trump was born in Yugoslavia], who keeps a tight grip on him. So the very fact that he has a family with children is a big deal. Not only does he think about his own future, but also about the future of his children," Lukashenko said.
