The situation in Belarus on the eve of the presidential election, scheduled for January 26, 2025, remains stable, but the atmosphere surrounding the republic raises concerns, Belarusian Security Council State Secretary Alexander Volfovich said at an annual meeting of CIS security council secretaries in Moscow.

"The situation inside the country is under control. The measures taken to ensure security in our country today facilitate the normal operations of the government and the daily life of residents. Yet, what is happening around Belarus at the moment certainly raises concerns," he said, as quoted by BelTA.

The official expressed regret that all peace initiatives and proposals voiced both by the Belarusian president and by the country’s leadership concerning neighboring states "have been left unanswered." "Above all, Poland and the Baltic countries continue their aggressive policies aimed at demonstrating their military might and creating tensions near the Belarusian state border. Apparently, they have forgotten the terrible lessons of the Second World War," Volfovich stressed.

Earlier, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko reiterated to government agencies that one cannot relax during the election campaign in the country due to the threat of potential provocations.
