US decision to send missiles to Germany escalates global nuclear race, warns CSTO chief
On July 10, the White House press office announced that the United States will begin deploying new weapons with greater range than those currently stationed in Europe to Germany starting in 2026
MOSCOW, November 7. /TASS/. The US decision to deploy missiles in Germany has reignited the threat of a global nuclear arms race, Secretary General of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) Imangali Tasmagambetov said at a meeting of the secretaries of the security councils of the CIS countries in Moscow.
"The decision made jointly by the United States and Germany to deploy longer-range weapons in Western Europe has revived the threat of a missile and nuclear race on the continent and around the world," he noted.
On July 10, the White House press office announced that the United States will begin deploying new weapons with greater range than those currently stationed in Europe to Germany starting in 2026. Russian Ambassador to Washington Anatoly Antonov said that these plans increase the risk of a missile arms race and may lead to uncontrolled escalation.
On July 28, Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that Russia would no longer abide by the unilateral moratorium on the deployment of medium-and shorter-range strike capabilities should US longer-range missiles appear in Germany.
