Erdogan discusses with Trump over telephone future of US-Turkish cooperation
He expressed his wishes for the development of cooperation between Turkey and the United States in the future
ANKARA, November 7. /TASS/. President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan held a telephone conversation with Donald Trump, who won the US presidential election, the Turkish president’s press office said in a statement.
"President Recep Tayyip Erdogan held a telephone conversation with US President-elect Donald Trump," the statement reads. "During the conversation, President Erdogan congratulated Trump on his [presidential] election victory. He expressed his wishes for the development of cooperation between Turkey and the United States in the future."
The presidential election in the United States wrapped up on the morning of November 6 (Moscow time). The official outcome has not been announced yet, but, according to Fox News, Trump secured 277 electoral votes, with 270 required for the victory.
Trump has already declared himself the 47th President of the United States. House Speaker Mike Johnson called him a president-elect. Trump has already started receiving congratulations from foreign leaders. In addition to the President and Vice President, US voters also elected one third of the Senate, the entire House of Representatives and governors of 11 states and 2 territories.
