WAHINGTON, November 6. /TASS/. US Vice President and Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris has called her Republican rival Donald Trump to congratulate him on winning the presidential election, The Washington Post reports, citing her aide.
According to the aide, the vice president also "discussed the importance of a peaceful transfer of power and being a president for all Americans."
She is expected to address her supporter with a concession speech later in the day.
The US held its general election on November 5, with the voting having concluded when it was Wednesday morning in Moscow. Although vote counting continues, Trump has already proclaimed himself the country’s 47th president as he has scored more than 270 electoral votes, which is enough to win the election. Speaker of the House of Representatives Mike Johnson has already called him the elected head of state. Meanwhile, numerous congratulations have already been sent to Trump from foreign leaders.
Along with the presidential election, Americans were choosing governors in 11 states and two US territories, a third of the Senate, and all members of the House of Representatives.
