UNITED NATIONS, November 6. /TASS/. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres congratulated US Republican Presidential Candidate Donald Trump with his victory in the presidential elections, and expressed his hope for a constructive work with the new Administration.

"I congratulate President-elect Donald J. Trump and I reaffirm my belief that the cooperation between the United States and the United Nations is an essential pillar of international relations," he said in a statement.

He also commended the American people "for their active participation in the democratic process."

The presidential election in the United States wrapped up on the morning of November 6 (Moscow time). The official outcome has not been announced yet, but, according to Fox News, Trump secured 277 electoral votes, with 270 necessary for victory. He has already declared himself the 47th President of the United States. House Speaker Mike Johnson called him a president-elect. Trump has already started receiving congratulations from foreign leaders. In addition to the President and Vice President, US voters also elected one third of the Senate, the entire House of Representatives and governors of 11 states and 2 territories.
