According to the report, Israeli troops "continue to conduct limited, localized, and targeted operations in southern Lebanon" aimed at "eliminating terrorists from the air and the ground" and "detecting weapons while destroying terrorist infrastructure."
The situation in the Middle East has been tense since October 7, 2023, when armed Hamas militants from the Gaza Strip breached Israeli territory, killing residents of border settlements and taking more than 240 hostages. In response, Israel launched a military operation targeting Hamas' military and political structures and working to free all hostages. Hostilities in Gaza are ongoing.
The Hamas attack coincided with an escalation along the Lebanese-Israeli border, where Hezbollah militants began shelling Israeli border areas, prompting the evacuation of tens of thousands of residents. On September 23, Israel initiated a military operation against Hezbollah, conducting extensive airstrikes across Lebanon, including in Beirut. A limited ground operation has also been underway in southern Lebanon since October 1.
