Iran hopes Italy will use its G7 presidency to resolve Gaza conflict
Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said Iran has always supported a prompt resolution of the conflict and has "suffered significant losses for the sake of establishing stability and security in the region"
DUBAI, April 12. /TASS/. Iran hopes that Italy will use its presidency in the Group of Seven to put an end to the conflict in the Gaza Strip, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said in phone talks with his Italian counterpart Antonio Tajani.
"We expect Italy to use its G7 presidency to try to immediately put an end to the Israeli regime's genocide and war crimes in Gaza and the West Bank to achieve full security in the region," the minister said, according to the Iranian Foreign Ministry's Telegram channel.
Abdollahian said Iran has always supported a prompt resolution of the conflict and has "suffered significant losses for the sake of establishing stability and security in the region."
The situation in the Middle East sharply escalated following an incursion of Hamas militants from the Gaza Strip into Israel on October 7, accompanied by killings of residents of Israeli settlements near the border and taking more than 200 hostages, including children, women and elderly people. Hamas cast the attack as a response to Israeli actions against the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem. Israel declared a complete siege of the Gaza Strip and started striking the enclave and parts of Lebanon and Syria. Clashes are also taking place in the West Bank.
