DUBAI, April 12. /TASS/. At least 63 Palestinians were killed in Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip and another 45 suffered injuries in the past day, Palestine’s WAFA news agency reported.
According to the media outlet, the Israeli army carried out intense airstrikes and bombing attacks on the Nuseirat refugee camp area in central Gaza. In addition, the Jabalia refugee camp in the enclave’s north was attacked by drones.
According to WAFA, the total death toll from the military operation that Israel launched in Gaza last October has reached 33,545, while over 76,000 people have been injured. Thousands are still missing, under the rubble, as the Israeli military continues to block access for ambulance and emergency services to combat zones.
Tensions in the Middle East flared up again on October 7, 2023, after militants from the radical Palestinian group Hamas launched a surprise incursion into Israeli territory from the Gaza Strip, killing residents of border communities and taking over 240 people, including women, children and the elderly, hostage. Hamas described its attack as a response to the aggressive actions of Israeli authorities against the Al-Aqsa Mosque on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem’s Old City. Israel announced a total blockade of Gaza and started carrying out strikes on targets in the Strip, as well as on certain areas in Lebanon and Syria. Clashes are also taking place in the West Bank.
