AUKUS ready to join forces with Japan in working on advanced capability projects
In the AUKUS classification, Pillar I projects are for the construction of nuclear-powered submarines with conventional weapons for the Australian Navy
LONDON, April 8. /TASS/. Australia, the UK and the US, which together make up the AUKUS military alliance, are ready to work together with Japan on the development of advanced military capabilities, AUKUS defense ministers said in a joint statement.
"Recognizing Japan's strengths and its close bilateral defense partnerships with all three countries, we are considering cooperation with Japan on AUKUS Pillar II advanced capability projects," the statement said.
In the AUKUS classification, Pillar I projects are for the construction of nuclear-powered submarines with conventional weapons for the Australian Navy. As Pillar II projects, AUKUS papers name the development of artificial intelligence, quantum technologies, hypersonic weapons and means to counter them, electronic warfare systems, autonomous underwater vehicles, and a program to develop radars for tracking objects in deep space.
