Ukraine's NATO accession to unleash war in Europe — Austrian lawmaker
Petra Steger criticized the idea of creating a $100 billion aid fund for Ukraine, saying it would only prolong the fighting
VIENNA, April 4. /TASS/. Ukraine's potential accession to NATO will drag the whole of Europe into war, Petra Steger, a member of the National Council (lower house of the Austrian parliament) from the opposition Freedom Party of Austria said.
"It is more than obvious that Russia will never agree to Ukraine's membership in NATO and that the much-needed peace cannot be achieved on this basis. On the contrary - there is a danger of a serious expansion of the war," the party’s press service quoted the politician as saying.
According to Steger, Brussels and NATO are gripped by a "thirst for war." The lawmaker also criticized the idea of creating a $100 billion aid fund for Ukraine, saying it would only prolong the fighting.
"However, ensuring peace is clearly no longer the goal of this European elite, which instead prefers to prepare for a frontal confrontation with Russia by discussing, among other things, the deployment of military personnel," she added.
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg on Wednesday reiterated the alliance's position that Ukraine should become a NATO member, but said he did not know when that would happen.
