Israel’s attack on consulate in Damascus violates international law, Iranian MFA says

DUBAI, April 1. /TASS/. Israel’s airstrike on Iran’s consulate in the Syrian capital of Damascus violates all rules of international law, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said in a phone call with his Syrian counterpart Faisal Mekdad.
According to a statement posted on the Iranian Foreign Ministry’s Telegram channel, Abdollahian "slammed the attack on Iran’s consulate building in Damascus as a violation of all international obligations and conventions." The top diplomat emphasized the need for "the international community to show a strong reaction to such criminal actions."
Mekdad, in turn, "strongly condemned the criminal actions of the Zionist regime," the Iranian Foreign Ministry said.
The Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) reported earlier that Israel had carried out an airstrike on a building in Damascus. According to Iran’s SNN TV channel, the attack targeted Iran’s consulate building and the ambassador’s residence. According to Iranian Ambassador to Syria Hossein Akbari, the attack killed five to seven people. He confirmed that diplomatic workers and military advisors might be among the dead.
