India is mediator to convey messages on Ukraine, Gaza — top diplomat
Subrahmanyam Jaishankar recalled that India’s position on the situation in Ukraine is that there is no military solution to the conflict and New Delhi wants to help put an end to it
NEW DELHI, March 28. /TASS/. India is used by other countries when they need to convey messages concerning the conflicts in Ukraine and the Gaza Strip, Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar said.
"We are a country which can openly speak with the Russians about this [Ukrainian] problem, its various aspects. You know, other countries used us to convey message. And, by the way, to convey such messages concerning the conflict between Gaza and Israel," the NDTV quoted him as saying when talking to representatives of Malaysia’s Indian community in Kuala Lumpur.
He recalled that India’s position on the situation in Ukraine is that there is no military solution to the conflict and New Delhi wants to help put an end to it. "From the very beginning, we have been sticking to the position that this conflict cannot be resolved on the battlefield," he stressed.
As for the conflict in Gaza, the top Indian diplomat condemned Hamas’ attack on Israel on October 7, 2023 as terrorism. "On the other hand, you know, no one can approve of the deaths of innocent civilians," he said.
"The core of this problem is Palestinians’ rights and the fact that they were denied their homeland," he added.
Jaishankar is touring Asian counties. Malaysia is the third and final stopover after Singapore and the Philippines.
