Africa should be represented among UNSC permanent members — UN official
Leonardo Santos Simao noted that UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres is making efforts to reform the organization
MOSCOW, March 28. /TASS/. Africa need to be presented among the United Nations permanent members, UN Secretary General’s Special Representative for West Africa and the Sahel Leonardo Santos Simao said in an interview with TASS.
"To have Africa, it's a must. It's a necessity. So that Africa, as a permanent member of the Security Council, like others, can have a voice on that (the UN reform - TASS)," he said.
He noted that UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres is making efforts to reform the organization. "Yes, this is Secretary General's efforts, on two aspects. One is the need to reform the UN security and they (some of the UN member states - TASS) present all the arguments that this arrangement was adopted in 1945 and after all these years the situation of the world has changed demographically, economically, politically, with the new membership. So the reasons which led to the current arrangement have been overcome by the events, by the times. So it's natural to adjust," he added.
