Danger of real war between Russia, NATO small at this point, Spanish expert says
Carlos Gonzalez-Villa also noted the failures of recent Western military missions
MADRID, March 22. /TASS/. The probability of a real armed conflict between Russia and NATO is small, although the tensions may escalation due to the recklessness of Western leaders, says Carlos Gonzalez-Villa, Professor of political studies at the University of Castilla-La Mancha.
Commenting on Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov’s remark that the special military operation in Ukraine has already escalated into a war because of the intervention of the West, the Spanish expert noted that "the state of war is nothing new."
"The risk of a real war between Russia and NATO states, in my opinion, is small," he told TASS, noting that the situation "may escalate because of the recklessness of Western leaders."
"Currently, all recent proposals are empty rhetoric," the professor noted. "First, the aid they provide to Ukraine will not let this country win the war."
"Second, European societies are unable to make war efforts," he said. "They are internally divided, and the existing professional armies are not ready for that."
The expert also noted the failures of recent Western military missions.
"It is interesting that it is France, who led these failed interventions, currently promotes military rhetoric in Europe," he added. "This can be explained only by short-term internal political factors.".
