MOSCOW, March 22. /TASS/. The Kiev authorities admit that the US is urging them to stop carrying out strikes on Russian energy facilities, according to a statement by Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister Olga Stefanishina.

"We understand the calls from our American partners. However, we are fighting with the capabilities, resources and methods available to us today," she said at the so-called Kiev Security Forum, commenting on a story by the Financial Times.

The newspaper wrote earlier, citing sources, that the United States demanded Ukraine halt strikes on Russia’s energy infrastructure. According to the Financial Times, Washington is worried that apart from driving up global oil prices, the attacks may push Russia to target enemy infrastructure facilities, on which Western countries also rely. Those particularly include the Caspian Pipeline Consortium’s oil pipeline that is used by Western companies, namely Exxon Mobil and Chevron.

Russian Presidential Spokesman Dmitry Peskov said in this regard that Moscow wants Washington to urge Kiev not just to stop attacks on Russian energy facilities but to quit their terrorist activities altogether, primarily those that target residential buildings.
