China advocates for peace conference recognized by Russia, Ukraine — Chinese special envoy
Li Hui noted that Beijing suggests holding this conference in such a format "in order to guarantee the success and achieve results from this event," not to support any separate party to the conflict
BEIJING, March 22. /TASS/. The Chinese government believes it is necessary to organize a peace conference that will be equally recognized by both Russia and Ukraine, Chinese Special Representative for Eurasian Affairs Li Hui said.
"Our stance [on holding a peace conference] lies in our hope for a [format] of international cooperation, which will be recognized by both Russia and Ukraine, where all parties will be equal and will discuss all the proposed projects suggested in a fair way," he said at a briefing, speaking about the possibility of holding a peace conference in Switzerland.
The diplomat added that Beijing suggests holding this conference in such a format "in order to guarantee the success and achieve results from this event," not to support any separate party to the conflict.
Earlier, Switzerland favored Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky’s call for holding a high-level world peace conference in the Alpine country. Bern intends to convene this conference before the start of the summer at the ministerial level. On March 13, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that Russia would not attend this conference even if it is invited, because this event will de facto be dedicated to the promotion of Zelensky’s so-called "peace formula."
