All parties believe conflict in Ukraine to be settled peacefully — Chinese special envoy
According to Li Hui, all the parties concerned understand that a further escalation of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict would only bring more dangerous consequences
BEIJING, March 22. /TASS/. The Ukrainian crisis will be settled by peaceful means only, not by force, and all the parties involved believe in this, Chinese Special Representative for Eurasian Affairs Li Hui said.
"Each side adheres to its own position. Their perspectives on the issue of the [development] of peace talks differ significantly," he said at a briefing, attended by foreign diplomats and reporters following his international trip dedicated to the Ukrainian settlement. "However, all of them agree that the crisis will be settled by peaceful means, not by weapons," he added.
According to the diplomat, all the parties concerned understand that a further escalation of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict would only bring more dangerous consequences. The global community "is interested in achieving peace soon," Li added.
The envoy emphasized that Beijing would seek some common ground, reinforcing consensus, and is going to "create favorable conditions for peace talks."
In early March, Li spent around ten days pursuing his shuttle diplomacy mission, dedicated to contributing to reaching a settlement to the Ukrainian conflict. His itinerary included visits to EU headquarters, Poland, Ukraine, Germany and France. The trip marked Li’s second round of Ukraine-related shuttle diplomacy, the first of which took place last May, when he met with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, European diplomats and Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky.
