EU’s military assistance to Ukraine totals 31 bln euro since start of conflict — Borrell

The European Union promised Ukraine 1 million shells from March 20, 2023 to March 19, 2024, but this promise was not fulfilled

BRUSSELS, March 21. /TASS/. The European Union has provided Ukraine with weapons worth 31 billion euros since the beginning of the conflict, the EU's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, told reporters upon arrival at the EU summit.

"Now the figure is 31 billion [euro]. It changes every day. So, since the beginning of the conflict we have provided 31 billion of military assistance to Ukraine," he said.

"About ammunition supply we have donated for free about 500,000 [shells]. but if you count exports, commercial relations, the European industry has been producing for Ukraine’s defense 400,000 more. But we have to continue because even 2 million will not be enough," he added.

The European Union promised Ukraine 1 million shells from March 20, 2023 to March 19, 2024, but this promise was not fulfilled. At the same time, the European Commission previously stated that the European Union, as of January of this year, had increased its production of shells to 1 million per year.
