American lawmakers pass bill on actions against those 'threatening' Bosnia and Herzegovina
The bill was supported by 365 members of the lower house of Congress
WASHINGTON, March 20. /TASS/. The US House of Representatives (the lower chamber of the US Congress) approved an anti-Russian bill on imposing sanctions on those who, according to the US side, threaten the territorial integrity and integration into Euro-Atlantic structures of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The bill was supported by 365 members of the lower house of Congress, according to its website. Thirty deputies opposed it. It is not yet known when the document will be considered by the US Senate, the upper chamber of the US Congress.
According to the bill, the US should ask the European Union to join the sanctions imposed by the US and the UK against President of Republika Srpska (an entity within Bosnia and Herzegovina) Milorad Dodik, as well as condemn Russia for allegedly "undermining the Dayton Agreement," the General Framework Agreement for Peace in Bosnia and Herzegovina, signed in Paris on December 14, 1995.
The document approved by the congressmen also provides for the introduction of US sanctions against those whom the US authorities believe are involved in actions that "threaten the peace, security, stability, or territorial integrity of Bosnia and Herzegovina" or disrupt the work of its institutions.
Restrictions may include the introduction of visa restrictions and the freezing of assets in the United States.
