PRETORIA, March 17. /TASS/. The rebels that seized power in Niger immediately terminated the military agreement with the US, which allowed US military and civilian Pentagon personnel to stay in the African country, Reuters reported, citing the regime representative Colonel Amadou Abdramane.
According to the agency, the decision was made after the visit of US officials to Niger earlier this week. The US delegation included Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs Molly Phee and Commander of the United States Africa General Michael Langley. Abdramane said that the US officials violated the diplomatic protocol and did not notify Niamey about the membership of the delegation, its date of arrival and its agenda. He added that the sides discussed the issue of regime change in Niger and military cooperation between the two countries.
There is an operational drone base in the northern part of Niger, the news agency notes. By the end of 2023, there were about 1,100 US troops in Niger.
