German lawmaker calls for investigation of new leak about Taurus missile
Bundestag Defense Committee Chairwoman Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann noted that it was unacceptable to divulge information about a secret meeting
BERLIN, March 15. /TASS/. Bundestag Defense Committee Chairwoman Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann has called on prosecutors to investigate a leak of classified information about Taurus missiles, which was discussed by the defense committee behind closed doors.
"Bundestag President Baerbel Bas will be informed immediately and then the entire case will be handed over to the federal police or prosecutors," Strack-Zimmermann told the Sueddeutsche Zeitung newspaper. "It is unacceptable to divulge information about a secret meeting. We hope that we can identify the person in question and that he will then feel the consequences."
The Bundestag's Defense Committee held a closed-door meeting on Monday to discuss, among other things, the potential shipment of Taurus missiles to Ukraine and the details of how they are used. According to the Sueddeutsche Zeitung, the discussions included state secrets, which were apparently leaked to the t-online news website.
The report said that, if the missiles were supplied to Ukraine, it could hurt Germany’s security. It’s yet another reason why German Chancellor Olaf Scholz is refusing to transfer them.
