Belgrade never to impose sanctions on Russia, Serbian election observer says
According to Сhairman of the Serbian People's Party Nenad Popovic, since the beginning of the special military operation, Serbia has been under heavy pressure from the EU and the US
MOSCOW, March 14. /TASS/. Serbia will never introduce anti-Russian sanctions, as this position has been clearly articulated and is not subject to discussion, a Serbian observer monitoring the Russian presidential election said.
"Serbia will never introduce sanctions against Russia," Nenad Popovic, chairman of the Serbian People's Party, said.
According to him, since the beginning of the special military operation, Serbia has been under heavy pressure from the EU and the US, which wanted the Balkan country to join their anti-Russian sanctions. "However, Serbia's position was clearly determined in February 2022; it has not changed and will not change," Popovic emphasized.
The poll watcher also pointed out that "political relations between Russia and Serbia are at the highest level in history." "Russia is Serbia’s important strategic partner; it receives the cheapest gas among all European countries, and this is very important for our economy," he noted. "The Russian market is very important for Serbia’s agricultural products; there are many horizontal links between [the two countries’] industrialists," he added.
Popovic recounted that Russia and Serbia enjoy huge potential for developing their bilateral economic relations.
