TEL AVIV, March 10. /TASS/. Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz will go to New York to take part in the United Nations Security Council meeting on Hamas crimes committed on October 7, 2023, the office of the Israeli prime minister reported.

According to the prime minister’s office, Katz will attend the UN Security Council meeting on the instruction from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. He will be accompanied by members of the families of Israeli nationals kidnapped by Hamas radicals. They will also meet with Special Representative of the Secretary-General on Sexual Violence in Conflict Pramila Patten. The Israeli delegation will also include Israel's hostages and missing person coordinator Gal Hirsch.

"Israel Katz thanked the head of government for support and assistance and discussed actions that are to be taken to promote the issue of the United Nations declaring Hamas a terrorist organization and imposing personal sanctions on its leaders," the office said.

Tensions flared up again in the Middle East on October 7 after militants from the Gaza Strip-based radical Palestinian group Hamas launched a surprise incursion on Israeli territory, killing many Israeli kibbutz residents living near the Gaza border and abducting more than 240 Israelis, including women, children and the elderly. Israel declared a total blockade of the Gaza Strip and launched bombardments of the enclave and some areas in Lebanon and Syria, as well as a ground operation against Hamas in the Gaza Strip. Clashes are also reported in the West Bank.
