BEIJING, March 7. /TASS/. The UN's role in addressing crises and challenges should be strengthened as it is the main mechanism for achieving peace, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said at a press conference.
"The role of the UN should be strengthened, not weakened, and the status of the UN must be upheld, not replaced," the minister said, pointing out that the world has only one international system, with the UN at its core, and no one is allowed to play only by their own rules.
According to Wang Yi, the UN is the main mechanism for achieving world peace and development, as well as an important ground for most small and medium-sized countries to participate in international affairs on an equitable basis.
The minister added that China "will work with the international community to support the continuous development and improvement of the UN" for adapting to the new political and economic reality, as well as strengthening the representation and voice of developing countries.
