Mercenaries from 50 countries serve in foreign legion — Ukraine’s military intelligence
Earlier, the press service of Russia’s Investigative Committee said that it had put on the wanted list more than 700 foreigners fighting in Ukraine
MOSCOW, March 7. /TASS/. The Ukrainian Defense Ministry’s Main Directorate of Intelligence (GUR) has said that mercenaries from more than 50 countries, including the United States and Britain, are serving in the so-called international legion.
"The legion has united volunteers from more than 50 countries. <...> In the ranks of the GUR unit are experienced fighters, veterans of special operations forces and other military units from the United States, Britain, Australia, Denmark, other countries in Europe, Asia, Africa and South America," the GUR's post on the Telegram channel reads. The strength of the unit is not disclosed.
On Thursday, the press service of Russia’s Investigative Committee said that it had put on the wanted list more than 700 foreigners fighting in Ukraine, among them citizens of the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland and Romania.
In July 2023, the Russian Defense Ministry said that a total of 11,675 mercenaries from 84 countries had officially arrived in Ukraine since February 24, 2022 to participate in hostilities on Kiev's side. The largest groups are from Poland (over 2,600), the US and Canada (900 or more) and Georgia (over 800).
