Berlin denies intercepted military conversation points to preparations for war
"As we have often seen before, it is definitely an attempt to sow public discord in Germany and Europe," Wolfgang Buechner noted
BERLIN, March 4. /TASS/. The German government denies that an intercepted conversion between high-ranking German military officers where a potential attack on the Crimean Bridge was discussed points to Berlin’s preparations for a war against Russia.
"Clearly, allegations that the conversation proves that Germany is preparing for a war against Russia are part of Russia’s absurd and disgusting propaganda," German Government Spokesman Wolfgang Buechner said at a briefing.
"As we have often seen before, it is definitely an attempt to sow public discord in Germany and Europe," he added.
RT Editor-in-Chief Margarita Simonyan said on March 1 that on the very day that German Chancellor Olaf Scholz was giving assurances that NATO was not now and would not in the future be directly involved in the Ukraine conflict, Germany’s top brass was in fact mulling how to carry out a potential attack on the Crimean Bridge in a way that would have no repercussions for Berlin by giving it the cover of plausible deniability. Simonyan said she had a corroborating audio recording of the Bundeswehr officers’ conversation in her possession. She later released a transcript of it, which makes it clear that the military officers discussed the Taurus missiles’ capability to hit and destroy the Crimean Bridge and the tactical details involved in preparing such an attack. Russian Security Council Deputy Chairman Dmitry said that the intercepted conversation of Bundeswehr officers made it clear that Germany was preparing for a war against Russia.
The German Defense Ministry confirmed on March 2 that an internal conversation between high-ranking German military officers had been intercepted. Scholz pledged to carry out a quick probe into the situation.
