Israel to assume ‘more aggressive stance against Russia’ — Israeli senior politician
Amir Weitmann said that Israeli UN Ambassador Gilad Erdan’s statement about the deliveries of early warning systems to Ukraine was "just the beginning" of Israel’s commitment to country
WASHINGTON, March 3. /TASS/. The Israeli authorities intend to assume a more aggressive stance towards Moscow regarding Russia’s special military operation in Ukraine, a senior Israeli politician told the Business Insider news portal.
"Israel will take a more aggressive stance against Russia," Amir Weitmann, the head of the libertarian caucus in Israel's ruling Likud Party, told the Business Insider.
Weitmann’s commentaries come in the wake of Gilad Erdan, Israel’s UN Ambassador, who stated on Wednesday that Israel was "working to provide Ukraine with early warning systems." According to the news portal, Israel is one of the world leaders in early-warning detection systems.
He said there was no doubt that "Russia is heavily involved in what is happening in Israel" as he referred to the ongoing Israeli-Palestinian conflict. However, Weitmann added that it was not clear "at what level" Russia was involved.
According to him, Israel has currently "no capacity" of providing weapons systems to other countries, but he added that Israeli UN Ambassador Erdan’s statement about the deliveries of early warning systems to Ukraine did not "come out of the blue" and it was "just the beginning" of Israel’s commitment to Ukraine.
Russian First Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations Dmitry Polyansky stated earlier in the week that Israel and Ukraine were fighting a battle against humanity and international humanitarian law. Commenting on the statement of Israel’s UN Ambassador Erdan, who compared Russia’s actions in Ukraine to the Hamas attack on Israel, Polyansky said "Delirium continues… A week ago we heard from the Israeli representative that `the United Nations is Hamas’. Today - that Russia is Hamas.".
