The vote to approve the resignation was unanimous and took place at the parliament’s first session after a winter vacation.

The country’s ruling parties, which together hold a two-thirds majority in parliament, nominated 67-year-old Constitutional Court President Tamas Sulyok as a replacement. Voting on his candidacy is set to take place later on Monday. Hungary's president is elected by parliament for a five-year term.
